Our story follows Omar and Dieon who’ve been together for 21 long, happy years. Well... seven years, really. But one year in a gay relationship is three hetero years. They’ve bought a house, merged friend groups and even started saying “we” instead of “I”. And now, they’ve decided to take the next step: have a baby!
Romantic... emotional... some would even say magical. Right? WRONG! They’re not straight.
Each episode of One Baby, Please! follows Omar and Dieon as they grapple with adoption versus surrogacy, surrogacy agencies, egg donors, donor profiles, meeting and matching, medical screenings and legal proceedings. All while fending off their overly involved immediate family who is imparting solicited, but mostly unsolicited, “wisdom.”
Our show explores the meaning of family. The one you are born into, as well as the one you chose. As Omar and Dieon go through the motions, the universe will ultimately lead them back to each other, and their family, for the solutions to their problems.
One Baby, Please! is an ode to gay couples and their kids, who’ve never seen anything like this before on TV. It’s a heartfelt wake-up call for the rest of the world, spotlighting the microaggressions that we face as gay people of colour. It’s a satire of the rigorous, tedious process we have to go through to have what many people have... then regret having: a baby.
Kidding. Of course everyone loves their kids.
